An interactive narrative game to raise awareness about the journey and symptoms of PCOS

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common chronic hormonal disorder among women of childbearing age. It is characterized by a hormonal imbalance that can lead to menstrual cycle irregularities, hyperandrogenism, fertility issues, and significant metabolic and psychological effects.

PCOS affects patients’ quality of life both physically and emotionally, with symptoms such as chronic fatigue, anxiety, body image issues, and feelings of isolation. Despite its prevalence, PCOS is still not sufficiently recognized or comprehensively managed.

The target population for this project consists of women aged approximately 25 to 35, a stage of life often marked by professional and relationship challenges and, for some, concerns about fertility. At this age, PCOS can have a significant impact on daily life, both physically and emotionally.

The proposed solution is an interactive narrative game whose primary goal is to help patients regain a sense of understanding and control over their daily lives with PCOS, while also raising awareness and promoting a better understanding of this condition among the general public.

In this game, the player takes on the role of a female character who navigates the various typical stages of the PCOS journey. The storyline offers a compassionate and informed portrayal of patients’ experiences as well as the healthcare system, highlighting the challenges they face and the specific needs associated with the condition. As the player progresses through the game, they unlock fact sheets backed by reliable sources.
