Application for connecting caregivers of epileptic patients
Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. These seizures can vary in intensity and form, from brief absences (periods of altered consciousness) to severe convulsions with uncontrolled movements. Epilepsy can have different causes, such as brain lesions, genetic abnormalities or infections. Although there is no cure, it can often be controlled with anti-epileptic drugs, and in some cases, surgery or lifestyle modifications.
The chosen target population is the family caregivers of people with epilepsy. These people play an essential role in managing the disease, supporting patients on a daily basis, monitoring seizures etc… This role can be testing, both emotionally and physically, as they have to deal with unpredictable and sometimes stressful situations. It is therefore crucial to provide them with resources and adapted support to help them better understand epilepsy and effectively manage their role as caregiver.
The solution proposed as part of this project is a dating app dedicated to caregivers, designed to create links between people living similar experiences and share their difficulties, solutions and mutual support. Inspired by traditional dating apps, this solution offers a “match” system adapted to their unique situation.
- Personalized profile system: Users create a profile with key information about their situation, such as their relationship with the person with epilepsy, the level of severity of the disease, and their discussion preferences. They can also add personalized elements such as their location or themes of interest.
- Intelligent matching: thanks to a recommendation system, compatible profiles are suggested to the user. This matching is based on criteria such as shared needs, similar experiences or chosen topics of discussion.
- Community discussion topics: In addition to one-to-one meetings, the application offers a system of “topics” where users can take part in themed discussions (e.g. use of a technology, management of a specific crisis, exchange of best practices).
- Communication tools: Once logged in, users can communicate via an intuitive chat facility, encouraging the sharing of experiences and mutual support.
