Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is a serious disease that can affect people of any age. It is most common in adults (70% of new cases occur in adults aged ≥60 years).

In this disease, abnormal blood cells multiply rapidly in the bone marrow, replacing healthy cells. This can cause fatigue, infection, fever, bruising and bleeding.

Treatment consists of chemotherapy to achieve remission, then further chemotherapy to prevent relapse, sometimes followed by a stem cell transplant.

Patients placed in isolation as part of their treatment experience a feeling of fear linked to their illness and feel the need to express this emotion.

The role of this project is to soothe the patient by alleviating stress and anxiety, while encouraging restful sleep, and to do so by entertaining them to occupy their time. Providing information, giving advice, sending reminders and passing on all information relating to the patient’s illness.

An immersive isolation room offers the individual an opportunity for deep relaxation, mental release and a total escape from the often sterile and cold atmosphere of hospitals. This facility offers :

  • a passive multisensory experience incorporating soothing videos, enveloping sounds and well-chosen scents such as the sea, the forest, the mountains, etc.
  • self-management functions such as alerts, reminders, advice and any other information relating to the disease
  • the option of making or receiving video calls
