AsthmApp

Childhood asthma affects around one child in ten, making it the chronic disease that affects the most children in the world. As a result, many parents have to cope with it, both by administering daily treatment and by managing asthma attacks when they occur. The causes of asthma are not well known, but there are many risk factors: genetic, infectious and environmental, which can lead to inflammation of the bronchial tubes and thus cause asthma.
Asthma is a common disease, with well-defined treatments, but it might be worthwhile going out and meeting these parents to understand their day-to-day lives and respond to any underlying needs to make their lives easier.

There is a current need for a better way of detecting the warning signs of an asthma attack, because certain symptoms that seem harmless can lead to serious attacks, while other symptoms that are impressive do not always lead to a serious crisis.

The application main feature are:

  • an overview giving a quick snapshot of the number of symptoms observed over the last 30 days
  • a page for entering events
  • a resource view providing a range of information about the disease (general information, description of symptoms, advice, drug treatments, visual and audio resources, etc.).
  • The “Symptoms & crises” tab links symptoms to the application’s colour code. For each degree of severity, general advice is given to guide parents.
