Excessive and chronic high-risk alcohol consumption is more commonly known as “alcoholism” or “alcohol dependence”. It refers to regular consumption which, because of its frequency and quantity, qualifies as problem drinking. According to current international standards, chronic risky drinking starts at an average of 2 standard drinks per day for women and 4 standard drinks for men. In Switzerland in 2022, it is estimated that 3.4% of women and 4.4% of men over the age of 15 will drink excessively on a regular basis.
Excessive drinking increases the risk of cancer of the digestive organs, cardiovascular disease, liver and pancreas disease, and cognitive impairment.
An addicted person will not be able to do without alcohol, so withdrawal can provoke reactions such as irritability, anxiety, tremors, nervous system hyperactivity, nausea/vomiting, insomnia, compulsive seeking, etc. Treatment for addicts varies from case to case, ranging from psychosocial support to medical treatment or hospitalization with detoxification.
This project is aimed at professionals who need a way of centralizing and sharing knowledge about existing institutions and related resources to support personalized patient follow-up.
The proposed solution is a multiplayer virtual space with the following concepts and functionalities:
- Knowledge sharing
- Possibility of posting a message to which everyone can reply later
- Instant discussions (request for help/advice)
- Each institution has an area in which it can chat
- Centralized resources
- Library of general information on alcoholism and links to key websites
- Each institution has a zone it manages with a library of information.
- Collaboration between institutions in an interactive space
- Each professional has an avatar with which he or she can move around and meet other professionals
- Gamification system that encourages exchanges and the provision of information
